Classroom construction

posted in: Half Way House

Designing Hope has been involved in the Roosboom township since 2011, where it runs a day care home for orphaned children (Halfway House).

They all attend the nearby Buhlebezwe school, which has 770 children. With the support of the Bel Foundation, major investments have been made to support this school, increasing Halfway House’s vegetable production capacity to supply the school canteen with fresh vegetables, and improving the canteen kitchen.

The headmistress then informed us of a structural problem within her school and suggested that we move the current kitchen, set up in a large classroom, into two small, cramped classrooms, one of which could be used for cooking and the other for food storage. This meant financing a new classroom…

This was achieved thanks to the joint support of two of the
association’s donors, the Fondazione Sir Lindsay and Lady Owen-Jones
and Marie Munoz.

Work began in March 2025…
