As part of the development of training activities at the Levi’s Nek farm, Designing Hope organised an initial training session on sewing school uniforms, with the support of The Ivory Foundation.
Patricia, an experienced trainer from the Garden of Skills in Eswatini, was invited to Lesotho to help launch the activity in the farm’s new sewing workshop.
The training brings together a mixed group of six young deaf and hard-of-hearing people from St Paul’s school in Leribe, two women from the local community of Levi’s Nek, and a professional seamstress recruited locally, who will ensure the continuity of the activity once Patricia has left.
As well as passing on technical skills, this initiative aims to promote the professional integration of young people with disabilities and to strengthen the economic autonomy of the village’s women. It marks a new stage in the development of the farm as a place of learning, inclusion and value creation for the community.
