Kitchen refurbishment at Roosboom’s Halfway House

posted in: Half Way House

To celebrate its 15th anniversary, Designing Hope’s Halfway House, which welcomes vulnerable and orphaned children from the Roosboom township in South Africa on a daily basis, has been given a well-deserved makeover.

The facility includes an area dedicated to recreational activities and educational support for children, as well as a kitchen and meal distribution room.

The kitchen has been completely renovated: floors and walls cleaned, paint applied, a new floor laid, a large worktop installed, and the sink connected to running water. Until now, the township’s frequent water cuts and lack of pressure meant that it was impossible to use tap water. The installation of a borehole, a pump and a small integrated water heater has brought appreciable comfort to the women responsible for preparing meals, and improved hygiene conditions.
